Center for Excellence in Leadership

The Center for Excellence in Leadership will support leadership skill development for faculty from all appointment tracks and ranks, providing faculty with opportunities to collaboratively explore leadership from various perspectives and levels, as well as encouraging faculty to explore their own leadership potential.  The institute will provide:

1) An annual series of leadership seminars aimed at developing leadership competencies in faculty and/or ways to prepare for and seek leadership roles

Current topic priorities for 2011-2012:

a. Time Management, Delegation and Efficiency

b. Negotiation, Conflict Management, and other Communication Skills

c. Managing during a time of Change

d. Meetings—When to Have Them, How to Run Them, Different Meeting Structures

e. Budgeting and Fiscal Responsibilities

f. Developing Vision for a Group/Motivating Teams (Transformational Leadership)

g. Gaining Visibility as a Leader and Strategic Career Planning

h. Performance management and employee development

2) An annual opportunity for faculty to assess leadership style and/or skill development

3) Periodic surveys of faculty on leadership development needs

4) Opportunities for individual mentoring in leadership goals
