The original KIDSFIRST was located in a former pediatrician’s office with three treatment rooms, and a colorful play area. Several long-time employees remember that there were a few challenges working in a small space.  KIDS FIRST was relocated in July 1997 to a new facility and again in 2007 to its current location in a renovated building to accommodate more treatment room space as well as offices and playrooms for developmental activities and therapy. 

KIDS FIRST in Fort Smith came about through the encouragement of local legislators who saw a need and sought a way to help. Cooperation from Sparks Regional Medical Clinic was an important contributing factor and the hospital continues their active support of the program.   KIDS FIRST Fort Smith has excellent support within the community. The local newspaper, The Times-Record, has been instrumental in keeping the community informed about the special events and the success stories that happen so often. 

KIDS FIRST works in cooperation with local, area and state colleges to provide observation and training to nursing, early childhood and special education students as well as social work interns.
