Another goal of a pediatric residency training program is to prepare residents for passing their pediatric certification exam taken after a resident completes training. During your residency training at UAMS, you will be provided with multiple tools to assist you in preparing for the Pediatric Boards.
Interns are provided with MedStudy® books. The MedStudy® Corporation creates excellent board exam preparation products that provide residents with high-yield content and easy-to-read formats. UAMS residents are encouraged to read through the MedStudy® books as they proceed through residency and again prior to taking their certification exams
All residents receive monthly issues of Pediatrics In Review, yearly subscription of PREP study materials, and access to the Pedialink site all through your AAP membership.
Also starting in your intern year and continuing throughout, you can participate in the “QuestionADay” program that allows you to receive board preparation questions via email. If you participate, you will be immediately notified if you are correct or incorrect and a performance percentage will be maintained for you throughout the year. You can continue to participate in “QuestionADay” throughout residency and in a modified version after completion of residency.
You will also be invited to attend the yearly Board Review Lecture Series (provided Monday-Friday in May-June) that is specifically focused on continuing to prepare upper level residents for board certification.
Lastly, for interested graduating residents, a Blackboard course has been created to assist residents with a reading plan using MedStudy® and an online discussion board to assist with communication with other residents and attendings. The residents are provided weekly questions obtained from the reading schedule. This helps support their continued preparation even post residency.
The Housestaff program is dedicated to helping all residents succeed in all phases of residency—clinical and educationally. Work through each resident's advisors and Housestaff members will ensure that all residents are given the best chance of success.
