Our pediatric residency training program is divided into 24 months of primary service and 12 months of electives. Primary service rotations include Term Nursery, ICN, NICU, PICU, Inpatient Wards, Emergency Department and Clinics. During your PGY-1 year, you will do 10 months of primary service and 2 months of required electives or selectives. During your PGY-2 year, you will do 7 months of primary service and 5 months of electives, which includes 2 months of selectives. During your PGY-3 year, you will do 7 months of primary service and 5 months of electives. Please click on this link for a PDF of our Rotation Schedule of Year.

A wide range of electives are available to meet your individual interests. There are specific electives available in all the pediatric specialties and most of the pediatric surgical subspecialities. Residents interested in primary care are encouraged to complete a Primary Care month at a private practice with an experienced pediatrician or in a Community Pediatric rotation which combines some of all community sites. We also have a Child Advocacy elective which takes advantage of our unique location within the state’s capital. If you are interested in research, you can arrange for a dedicated research month. And lastly, many of our residents have arranged month long rotations abroad to learn about international medicine. Ultimately, you are limited only by your imagination for a few of these elective months.
