Pediatric Emergency Department

Poised at the entrance of our state of the art pediatric hospital, our emergency department treats nearly 50,000 patients each year.  With 20 exam rooms, three trauma rooms, and a dedicated pediatric nursing staff, our pediatric emergency medicine physicians are trained to treat the entire spectrum of pediatric illness and trauma.  Over 15% of patients who present to our emergency department require admission to our hospital. Whether from home, their practitioner’s office, or from a referral hospital within the state or a neighboring state, patients  present to our department expecting and receiving a standard of excellence that has earned our hospital national acclaim.  Our intensive care transport program enables us to provide Arkansas with 24 hour access to comprehensive pediatric care.  Our emergency department is staffed by twenty board certified pediatricians, ten who are either board certified or board eligible in the sub-specialty of pediatric emergency medicine.  Double physician coverage is present 19 hours per day, with triple physician coverage 12 hours per day.  Currently, six pediatric emergency medicine fellows train in our fellowship program and we have recently added advanced practice nurses to our emergency department staff.
